Haber Oaks Academy is District 155’s alternative learning program serving students from all D155 high schools. The program provides a highly structured, supportive learning environment using restorative and trauma-sensitive practices to promote student success, skill development, and positive school engagement. Within Haber Oaks, the therapeutic program supports students who benefit from intensive social-emotional, behavioral, and academic supports delivered throughout the school day. Classes are taught by special education teachers and are designed for students whose needs require a supervised, responsive setting to help them build the skills necessary for successful participation in school and progress toward the least restrictive environment, including returning to their base high school when appropriate.
Students receive specially designed instruction (SDI) aligned to their Individualized Education Program (IEP), with access to grade-level curriculum and flexibility to adjust instruction based on individual learning needs. The program focuses on helping students develop emotional regulation, coping strategies, conflict resolution skills, and positive social interactions to guide relationships, build trust, and foster student confidence and independence. Executive functioning skills such as organization, planning, and time management are embedded throughout daily instruction to support long-term academic success.
Haber Oaks Academy also offers a flexible afternoon program that allows for online learning opportunities for general education students who meet established criteria based on grade level and earned credits. The online program is provided in a small, supportive environment and includes access to paraprofessional support, tutoring, and academic counseling to help students plan coursework and remain on track for graduation.
